Our childrens' programme offers a varied range of classes with different tutors and mediums for ages 5-18 years.

Weekend Art Club with Susannah MacDonald 8-16 yrs

BVA, Dip Teaching

Over the course of the term students will explore new techniques and art styles. Every week you will do something different using new techniques and processes including:- painting, drawing (pencil, charcoal, etc.), collage, acrylic painting on small canvas, papier mache animal sculpture, mask painting and more.

SMC2: Weekend Art Club with Susannah MacDonald

Photography & Video with Vicky Te Puni 11-16yrs

In these classes Vicki will cover basic photography skills to create a solid foundation and then kids will work on individual projects relevant to each person.  During the first few weeks we focus on composition, lighting, angles, and basic editing by shooting portraiture, still life and landscapes.  Halfway through the term each participant will work on their own project to complete a set of digital images.  During the last two weeks kids will work on a creative video which will be presented along with their final images to parents.

Ceramic Sculpture

Learn the techniques of hand-building and sculpting with clay from professional sculptor Bill Hayes. You will work on several pieces through the term and learn the processes involved in taking them from raw clay through to completed glazed artworks.

Advanced Cartooning and Animation for Teens with Dean Trembath 12-18 yrs

Learn to breathe the illusion of life into your favourite cartoon creations. Give them the gestures and expressions that make you believe they have personality, think and have feelings. Classes will take you through the step by step process of character design and focus on the drawing fundamentals of shape, construction and silhouette.

Yogi Kids with Michaela Sangl 6-10 yrs

Our passion at YOGI KIDS is teaching yoga in an imaginative, age-appropriate way to ensure that children will LOVE it!

Our themed classes explore yoga through adventure stories, group and partner poses and games, using uplifting music and finishing with a creative relaxation. Kids will learn new skills in a non-competitive environment while having lots of fun!

Michaela has a background in dance, singing and acting and worked as a performer and recording artist in Berlin for many years. Prior to this, she gained a first-class honours degree in architecture, winning the NZ Institute of Architects Award and then a post-graduate DAAD scholarship to the HdK Fine Arts University in Berlin. Michaela is fluent in German and Italian.

She is a certified Rainbow Kids Yoga teacher, Samadhi Family Yoga instructor and a trained 95hr Children’s & Teens Yoga Teacher (US Yoga Alliance). Michaela has also studied with Auckland-based Centre for Contemporary Yoga Studies to complete a 200hr IYTT (Integrated Yoga Teacher Training) for adults and is certified in Partner and Community Yoga with RKY in Australia.

Yoga Flow with Michaela Sangl 11-14 yrs

Yoga Flow classes explore themes such as friendship, trust and the power of positive thought, with a good dose of fun and imagination. Yoga flow refers to a creative exploration of the traditional sun salutation sequence, learning to synchronize movement and breath to allow energy to flow freely in our bodies – amazing for strength, flexibility, focus and calming the mind once you’re in the flow! Loads of additional poses get added in along the way, all set to uplifting music. Classes also include partner and group poses, breathing and relaxation techniques and visualisation of goals (eg. sport, school, or improving relationships with others).

Childrens Creative Space with Cath O'Brien

Make Room is a creative space at the Lake House Art Centre where children are supported to extend and explore their creativity with an emphasis on process and product. Drawing, painting, clay, multi media, 3D/sculpture and group work. 6 students maximum. Age 5 - 10 years
