The Vintage Craft School is a new and exciting collaboration of all things vintage. It aims to foster an ongoing creative community while sharing time-honored art and craft techniques, teaching basic traditional skills and the popular art of up-cycling. The Vintage Craft School not only offers the chance to learn traditional skills from experienced tutors and create beautiful art objects in a heritage setting; it brings back the social, interactive aspect of ‘hand-making’ as a therapeutic pastime.
This course will use sized silk from China and will take two days to complete.
Day one [Friday afternoon] will be to draw [or trace] a picture on to the silk with a fine brush and light Chinese ink.Students can bring their own picture[ no bigger than A4] if they want, or a selection will be available.
Some shading in ink will then be added to the painting.
Day two we will start to use colour on the shaded parts.
The more layers are used the brighter the painting will be so I think we will need to have a lunch break before returning to the painting. Lastly a layer of white on the back of the painting can be added to make the colours stand out.
I can provide the silk, brushes, ink and colours. The students will need to bring a white saucer or palette for colours, water container for washing brushes and possibly sellotape to anchor the silk down.
