Award-winning theatre company The Barden Party is bringing their usual fun-loving spin to Romeo & Juliet, and filling Shakespeare’s most famous play with their hilarious, heartfelt antics. Reimagined as a modern-bohemian romance set to Kiwi and Australian music you know and love, and that you’ve never heard before… You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll dance the night away.

Open to all public to submit. The Great Arts Sale is a cash-and-carry salon-style exhibition. Artists can contribute their own works or works they own and nominate their own prices. There is no commission on sale – price to sell!
Art can be received throughout the exhibition, however it is the preference of LHAC to receive all artwork on the days indicated below. This will maximise your chance of sale during the season. Lake House Arts supports artist resale royalties (for artwork you own but did not create) at our recommended value.
All delivery of artworks will be taken from Tuesday 20th February – Friday 23rd February between 9am and 3pm. Please allow up to 7 days after delivery for artworks to be hung. Artworks will be primarily staged in the Becroft Gallery.
Due to limited wall space, artists who deliver artworks after Tuesday 20th February will be advised that their artworks may be staged in other exhibition spaces in Lake House Arts.
Please ensure that all artworks are exhibition-ready with either d-rings or string across the back of 2d works. Sculptural works must be of reasonable durability.
Participants will be notified to collect unsold artworks ahead of the exhibition closing. All artworks must be collected by Friday 15th March.

Sizes up to 1000mm for length, width or depth: $10 per artwork submitted
Sizes larger than 1000mm for length, width or depth: $20 per artwork

Artist Statement about the exhibiton:
In this exhibition, artists Xinli Deng and Yi Xie will explore and present Zen culture and Chinese Taoist philosophy through a unique artistic perspective. Their works include a series of black and white paintings and sculpture installations. Each piece is meticulously crafted to embody the essence of Zen Buddhism in the form of visual art. Choosing monochromatic tones in their paintings is a tribute to the simplicity and profound contemplation of Zen Buddhism, aimed at creating a contemplative and peaceful atmosphere similar to Zen space. This environment will further enrich the elements of traditional Zen practice. These cultural forms are not only aesthetic supplements to abstract concepts, but also an indispensable part of providing authentic Zen experiences, allowing viewers to participate in art in a profound personal and spiritual way. The purpose of this exhibition is not only to showcase art; It aims to bring the audience into the realm of Zen Buddhism, providing a space for reflection, tranquility, and a deeper understanding of this ancient culture. Through this immersive experience, Xinli Deng and Yi Xie hope to bring the eternal wisdom of Zen to a wider audience. I firmly believe that this exhibition can promote people's understanding of Zen philosophy and its relevance in today's world. The innovative approach of combining visual art with experiential elements by two artists will provide a unique and meaningful experience for all audiences.

This exhibition showcases a project (Express Yourself) that was run at Lake House Arts during 2023 to promote creativity and create connections within the LGBTQ+ community. Three events were held during the year and at each, participants were invited to create an ‘artwork’ on the wall. Creating a wall filled with intermingling creative expressions. Everyone was encouraged to paint/draw anything they wanted, complete creative freedom. The result a documentation of each event in three big murals. These artworks have then had aspects of each selected and framed to create individual artworks that can be hung within a gallery setting. Giving a different perspective on each artwork when isolated.
The last Express Yourself will be running during the exhibition so everyone is welcome to come and create an artwork.
All artworks exhibited were created by participants who attended these events.

“Echoes in time” invites the viewer to explore a unique and thought-provoking collection of
work highlighting the striking contrast between two seemingly disparate, yet inextricably
entwined narratives. Imagery created using subjects from the same era, this exhibition
showcases the divergent paths taken by humanity during a pivotal period in history. The
careful selection of archival photographs capturing the starkness inside a concentration
camp, juxtaposed with the vibrant colours of New Zealand pictorial history, a landscape
untouched by the immediate physical devastation of war, but deeply impacted by conflict.
We invite you to engage in a visual dialogue that challenges our perception of history and
interconnectedness.

Casting on, Casting off, is an exploration of moments and states of transition in everyday interactions with human and nonhuman kin using the natural environment as an anchor. To be in transition, are we ever far from it?
This group of conceptually aligned artists recognise the creative process as a celebration of making, being in conversation, and working in communitas.
Alongside the exhibition, the artists of Casting on, Casting off, invite exhibition visitors to join a place-based response, which will be active for the duration of the show in the O'Neil Library. The invitation is to share stories while slow stitching onto a communal blanket. All ages, no previous sewing skills required and all materials provided. At the end of the show the blanket will be gifted to a creative community cause. Slow stitching together will be happening everyday for the exhibition duration (except Mondays and Tuesdays), from 10-2pm.

What does the “ordinary” mean? Humans always long for something special.
However, its speciality is just an illusion. After reaching the speciality that humans
have pursued so much, the speciality is no longer special.
This is because humans seek out another speciality.
The future’s speciality is an illusion. Enjoying the mediocrity of the present, that
could be missed due to the illusion, will be the best happiness humans can have.
After all, enjoying everyday ordinary life is a already enjoying the special life that
you have dreamed of.
Ordinary daily life in this sense will always be the main theme of my artworks.
Artist Biography:
My name is YG Matthew Son. I was born in Korea in 1952 and immigrated to NZ with
my family in 1992. I currently live in Takapuna, North Shore.
I majored in graphic design at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea, and
after graduation, I was in charge of advertising design and advertising production for
various companies for about 10 years at a large inhouse agency.
After that, I became independent and ran a private advertising production company
for 7 years. Even though I worked so passionately, I wanted to paint someday.
When I came to NZ, I had to work on my livelihood, so I couldn't start painting until I
was over 60 years old.
I started learning painting at Lake House Art Class for two years.
I participated in the 8th group exhibition and another small group exhibition
of 3 artists as a member of the Korean Art Association in Auckland, NZ.
I will be opening my first private exhibition at Lake House Art Center in
Takapuna. The period is scheduled from September 29 to October 13.

"I have recently become a qualified diver. The local marine environment and seaweed regeneration efforts are the inspiration for the works in this exhibition. This treasured ecology is under threat from an imbalance. Through over fishing and without enough of their natural predators Kina forage more actively than usual on the seaweed."
Artist Biography:
Verity is continuing her art practice from her studio and home in West Auckland, having recently returned from living in London where she studied at both the Slade and the Royal Drawing School.
Verity studied at Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts, completing her BFA in 2007. Awards Verity has won include the First Prize Greater Auckland Art Awards 2018, Supreme Award Franklin Arts Festival 2016, Pumphouse Art Award for Painting in 2007, Molly Morpeth Best Drawing Award. Verity was also a finalist in the Parkin Drawing Award 2017, Adam Portrait Award 1991, 2000, 2004, 2016 and in the Portage Ceramic Awards 2001, 2005 and 2006.

Margaret Lawlor-Bartlett QSM is an artist who is an outspoken voice on social issues that have shaped our nation's identity over 70 years of change, addressing waves of feminism and institutional patriarchy, tackling the shame of apartheid. Margaret Lawlor-Bartlett was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal for services to the NZ Anti-Nuclear Arms Movement and her role in initiating VAANA together with its associated public murals. She is a founding member of the NZ Association of Women Artists.

About Sheree Foster:
I am a "life" taught creative person who has been involved with many forms of Art for most of my life. My art pieces are one-off and unique. They're created from a range of repurposed materials as a means of acknowledging the environment through art.
I am inspired by the materials I gather from Mother Nature and combine them with textiles, metals, flax, weaving and cordage, harmonising with texture and form, defining their finished body, often showing a Pacific Rim style or contemporary finish.
Each piece has a story and often I feel that personal story as the pieces are completed. My Limited Edition Fine Art prints come from first growing, then pressing, and finally arranging into botanical themed art.
Printed on archivable ragged rolled papers will be an everlasting testament to their beauty. Many of my pieces currently feature in galleries in Auckland after winning multiple First Place awards, or have been selected to exhibit from NZ Wide entries.

Charlotte E. Johnson is a contemporary photographic artist and educator, living and working in Auckland as a professional photographer, videographer and microscopist. Charlotte's artwork is often described as painterly and ethereal. Her art has gained a national audience within Aotearoa New Zealand as part of several exhibitions, books and magazines, as well as international publications. Her work is held in the New Zealand Maritime Museum and the McGregor Museum, and in private collections. FATHOM (2023) will be Charlotte's debut printed solo exhibition and will take place at Lake House Arts Centre, Takapuna, Auckland (27 May - 8 July), as part of the 2023 Auckland Festival of Photography program. FATHOM refers to both the measurement of water depth, and the verb describing the act of deep thought. The exhibition employs imagery of the ocean, seascapes, and contemporary portraiture to explore key themes of impermanence, connection to place, and mental health, encouraging the viewer to interpret the works and find their own connections. In addition to limited edition photographic prints, FATHOM utilises multiple mediums linked through visual elements, processes and themes, including fabric works, video, unique mixed media paintings, and hand-embellished AI composites.

'The Thursday Art Club' took its name from Richard Osman's 'The Thursday Murder Club'. There are five of us - all great fans of Richard Osman's books. Mostly we paint in watercolours, but sometimes an acrylic or two might appear.
We meet on a Thursday and can easily spend the day painting and enjoying each other's company. In between, we set the world right commenting back and forth on the news of the day and what is happening on the global spectrum.
Elizabeth Warde paints portraits and landscapes using her photography to reflect details and shapes for trees and water.
Penny Adams paints landscapes, yachts, tree - anything with lots of colour and contrast - and paints it very well indeed.
Shann Craig is very good with animals and landscapes - subjects close to her heart from her native South Africa. Her paintings of giraffes are to die for!
Louise Sillitoe paints landscapes and still life - anything that has plenty of colour and contrast.
Joanne Mortimore's favourite subjects are South Island landscapes and occasional flocks of sheep.
Cynthia Archer paints birds and landscapes in both watercolour and acrylic.
Pauline Feltham specialises in painting bird life using both watercolours and acrylics.

Artist Statement:
Much of my inspiration for art comes from walking around and observing life around me, particularly people. I like to find “the story” in everyday life.
These paintings are based on photos taken over the past 5 years around Auckland city. During that time a lot has changed in Auckland city life with covid, living in lockdown isolation and much of the big construction projects changing the landscape of the city. The inspiration for this project is from these changes in a growing city and its neon lights reminiscent of cyber punk art. Hence the title “Cyber-Isolation”.
The title cyber-isolation also refers to the changing way we live our lives online through phones, social media and how people can still feel isolated in a city.

Jessica’s practice investigates the complexity of human relationships which are inherently intertwined and interconnected, to acknowledge that we rely on each other for our physical and psychological well being and survival. She draws on the metaphor of the cell walls semi-permeable membrane to evoke the concept of separation and transmission simultaneously; conveying ideas of transference, seepage and flow between distinct separate entities. Application of paint brushed on in thin wash overlapping layers illustrate ideas of complex interconnections, proximity and exchange. Under and over layers are highlighted equally. Lines / edges act as barriers and bridges halting flow while at other times creating connecting channels. Similarly, colour oscillates between oppositional strident complementary combinations, and closely related colours sitting alongside each other to create vivid and hovering compositional colour plays.
Her practice inhabits a transitional space that evokes an inner world revealing rational and irrational truths. Each painting emerges from the canvas through a meditative and intuitive decision making process, with mistakes and process visible, to create works that open up and evolve before the eye.
Jessica has recently had work in The National Contemporary Art Award 2022, The Aotearoa art fair in 21 and 22, and solo exhibition ‘Cells’ at Northart in 2021. She has a Masters of Fine Arts from Auckland University and has received the Sawtell-Turner Painting Prize, the Bickerton-Widdowson Trust Memorial Scholarship, University of Canterbury, and the Joe Raynes Scholarship, University of Auckland. Her work is held in several New Zealand collections.

Unfurling is a solo exhibition of Coral Noel Yang’s new abstract paintings drawing inspiration from the summer nightly walks she took with her parents as a five year old when jasmines bloomed, lily pads floated and fireflies glowed. Leaning into her imagination of vaporous memories, UNFURLING recaptures a time and space of belonging and magic through exploration of abstract language. Coral blends the Soak-Stain method pioneered by 20th-century female abstract artist Helen Frankenthaler with Asian water-ink tradition which she grew up with to create mesmerising imagery rich in storytelling, colour, transparent layers, water marks and brushworks.
Coral Noel Yang is an Auckland based, Taiwanese born artist specialised in expressive paintings in acrylic & oil that evoke timeless wonder. Before pivoting to full time painting during Covid in 2020, Coral worked as a film and animation director/producer for 15 years. Her passion for Aotearoa nature, Chinese/Japanese heritage, and living and working across the US, Europe and Asia inform her works. She is the People’s Choice Award winner at Kumeu Art Awards 2021 and finalist of the Upstairs Gallery Emerging Artist Awards 2022.

Muhammad Waqas and his wife Sameera Waqas are the founders of MW Calligraphy Art. They are Auckland based Islamic art artists. They both collaborate to create Arabic calligraphy art in a unique way. Their painting 51-Love, Peace & Unity received a lot of appreciation throughout New Zealand as it was displayed at the Beehive, Wellington Museum, and Police Museum.
Waqas and Sameera aim to show the unique beauty of Islamic Art by combining local art styles and Arabic calligraphy. They hope their paintings illuminate hearts with love of acceptance and bring a unique experience of this ancient art form to the people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Artist statement:
"Carving is part of my Maori Heritage. My maternal grandfather, Pani Paora was Maori of full blood, Ngāti Wharekōkōwai, Ngāti Kahungunu and Tūhoe. He was a talented artist, poet and a very creative man. I learned my art at The Learning Connexion in Wellington and Lower Hutt. I graduated with a Diploma in Art and Creativity with Honours. In 1999 I met Tony Kāpua at Papaiouru Marae, Ohinemutu Rotorua, where my mother grew up with her Arawa whanau. After watching Tony carving for about an hour he invited me to try it. He drew a pattern on a piece of rimu, gave me a chisel and mallet and said “carve this”. Although I had never done anything like this before he was so surprised at how well I had done and he said to me “Don’t put the tools down!” He said I had a natural talent and most of his students would take months to achieve what I had; in less than an hour. Subsequently I spent 6 months further training at Mihiroa Marae, Pakipaki, tutored by Master Carver, Tūhoe Huata. I also worked with Te Maru Marsh at Te Poho-o-Tangiianui Marae in Napier. In this time I learnt the significance of the Tribal patterns/styles of different Iwi and Master Carvers. I now carve in my own unique style which enables me to combine my fascination with carving and colour. I don’t plan my carvings and painting, the inspiration just comes from my soul, guided by the spiritual aspects of nature. The happiest memories of my childhood were playing in the trees, surrounded by the birds, flowers, all living things and the way in which light and colour influenced my world."

24 Solar Terms

Exhibition statement:
The 24 solar terms are summarised by the ancients by observing the periodic changes of the sun, recording the natural phenomena such as wind, frost, rain and snow, and the growth and development laws of plants when the sun is in different positions. The 24 solar terms also take the earth around the sun as a cyclem so it is closely related to the solar calendar and belongs to the solar calendar part of the lunar calendar.
It starts from the beginning of Spring and ends with the Greater Cold, moving in cycles. The element has been transmitted from generation to generation and used traditionally as a timeframe to direct production and daily routines. It remains of particular importance to farmers for guiding their practices.
These various functions of the elements have enhanced its visibility as a form of intangible cultural heritage and sustain its contribution to the community's cultural identity.

Auckland University of Technology Master of Design student, Lauren Hughes, presents her latest exhibition "The Material Mythos of Lovecraft". The collection combines elements of Gothic Literature, design and science to explore the agency of materials found in the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Hughes employs her signature sketching style to create intricate scenes that capture the haptic senses and visceral quality of material descriptions in Lovecraft's multiverse. The exhibit aims to break the dichotomy between the animated and unanimated, life and death, and fact and fiction, by colliding Gothicity with New Materialist philosophy. Open to all public to submit. The Great Arts Sale is a cash-and-carry salon-style exhibition. Artists can contribute their own works or works they own and nominate their own prices. There is no commission on sale – price to sell!
Art can be received throughout the exhibition, however it is the preference of LHAC to receive all artwork on the days indicated below. This will maximise your chance of sale during the season. Lake House Arts supports artist resale royalties (for artwork you own but did not create) at our recommended value.
All delivery of artworks will be taken from Tuesday 13th December – Friday 16th December between 9am and 2pm. Please allow up to 7 days after delivery for artworks to be hung or as spaces become available.
Please ensure that all artworks are exhibition-ready with either d-rings or string across the back of 2d works. Sculptural works must be of reasonable durability.
Participants will be notified to collect unsold artworks ahead of the exhibition closing. All artwork must have registration form attached prior to delivery.

About Roberta Queiroga:
Roberta Queiroga is a Brazilian born New Zealand citizen contemporary visual artist living in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. She has also lived in Portugal and Japan and influences of those places and cultures are highly noticeable on her identity and ultimately in her work.
"I believe my identity is continuously evolving and reshaping by experiences and influences from cultures, people and places I come across."
Throughout her practice she incorporates and mixes elements of various techniques with a twist, such as reinterpreting brush strokes with hands full of paint directly onto the canvas. A symbiosis that allows for her emotion to spontaneously flow with minimum interference when creating. Her work is aligned with the abstract expressionism.
Roberta's background is in architecture and she has an interest in the relationship between the artwork, the space and the viewer.

Artist Biography
Born Otahuhu, Auckland (1948).
"Some years ago when I was residing in Ponsonby, I was looking for an area close to home that I could resonate with and find inspirational as a plein air artist. I started to explore this area at the back of Mangere Mountain and found it to be exactly what I was looking for.
Old farming areas (which reminded me of South Auckland where I grew up, and began my journey as an artist), beautiful coastal areas with the wonderful Manukau Harbour as a backdrop, ancient volcanic outcrops, Otuataua Stonefields, and these wonderful old farm buildings which appealed to me as an artist.
This is one of the most historic areas in Auckland where Maori first settled in Tamaki Makaurau more than 800 years ago, which they originally use for market gardening and farming.
So began my obsession with recording in paint this extraordinary area, which I wanted to document before the land was sold up, and large commercial buildings began to dominate the landscape and change the face of it forever.
My working methods:
I work from observation and experience, and draw and paint what inspires me and I hope to confirm that what I paint is of lasting importance.
With plein air painting it is coming to terms with the landscape, immediate response and seizing the moment, and working quickly.
Translating a subject into paint is a challenging and often mysterious business. I look for immediate response and begin to assess the composition, the tonal qualities, the colour, and the contrasting light and shadow.
I work principally in oils and I paint on prepared panels, canvas boards and stretched canvas. I always work on a suitably toned ground and immediately state the darkest dark and the lightest light.
I also work in Gouache, watercolour, acrylic, pastel and mixed media. I use a variety of artists quality papers and matt board.
For studio work (excluding still life), I use my extensive collection of sketchbooks and small colour notes (which are produced in situ) and provide me with endless information and ideas.
My larger landscapes and abstract works are produced in the studio from my artists notes and studies.
All of my still life paintings are painted from direct observation from the subject. I work for a period of perhaps say an hour, and then continue on other days under a similar light until I feel I have said enough, with possibly up to 10 sessions with much scraping back and re-working.
After 50 years at the easel and over 38 solo shows, this gives you an introduction to my working methods."

The Auckland Plein Air group of artists was originally set up by Russell Hollings and a few of his artist friends. The group is made up of both professional and student artists, meeting up once a month to paint at various locations around the Auckland area. The term plein air is a French term, which simply means “in the open air”, and was first used by the French impressionist movement, who preferred to paint in the open air to capture the true light, colour and atmosphere, something that is not achievable from photographs in a studio. This movement has now taken off around the world, and is recognised as one of the fastest growing movements in the art world.
Included in this exhibition are 10 artists from the group, with each artist exhibiting four of their most recent works. The exhibition is the group’s first, and it is intended that we will be making it an annual event to be held here at the wonderful Lake House Arts.

A collaborative exhibtion
Michelle Reid is an artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau who is interested in the smudging between locatable and poetic references. Her current body of work draws on pattern, romanticism and modern environmentalism. During research Reid observed the wildly optimistic patterns of Joseph Frank, reinterpreting her own plans for textiles designs exploring New Zealand natives. The seven colours used in ‘Aotearoa’ pattern design became the colour palette for her paintings in ‘In The Wild Ballet’. Acknowledging a displaced sense of romanticism amongst environmental degradation, Reid sought to find hopeful aspects of contemporary and future nature progressively thriving in human absence. Reid soaked canvas off-cuts in oils and mismatched imagery of nature patterns were composed, joined and stretched as under-paintings. Over 2021-22 the paintings traversed lockdowns and homeschool to let go of initially organised intentions to find her own visual interpretation of Frank’s statement ‘the freer the pattern the better’.

Whakahoki means 'return', but in the context of this exhibition it stands for 'recover': Recovery through arts for our communities. Whakahoki is a community exhibtion that embraces this return and recuperation.
Whakahoki will involve Lake House Arts artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and with diverse life experiences - from students through to seasoned professionals - having the opportunity to work with and learn from Natanahira Pona, Lake Hosue Arts toi whakairo, about how aspects of matauranga Maori (kaitiakitanga, kotahitanga, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and rangatiranga) and toi Maori can influence their artistic styles to create 'whakahoki' - a return and recovery through arts.

The Wood Sculpture Symposium encourages both emerging and established
artists to step out of their comfort zones, to create a work ‘on the fly’; on site within Lake House grounds and within a strict time period. The 2020 event includes public programming with artist talks, demonstrations and interactive activities for kids. The live sculpting part of the event which is completely free and open to the public, will run from the 12th of November, then the creations will be placed in situ around the Lake House Arts Grounds for exhibition throughout summer.

Lake House Arts has collaborated with The Takapuna Business Association to bring a creative initiative to life!
We are inviting our Lake House members, friends and whanau to participate in creating vibrant art and design murals for power boxes around the Takapuna community.
Murals are a wonderful and unique way for our local artists to beautify, engage and strengthen the pride within our community while conveying a message in their designs.
Artists are encouraged to submit their designs for these power boxes and proposals themed around “Takapuna Community”, the brief otherwise is open to all styles.
There are a number of Locations include Anzac Lane, Huron Westpac, Como Street and Harcourts Hurstmere.
The selected entries will be rewarded $250 to each artist plus the materials.

Andy Turner (Andy Wilson)
Anthony Turner has studied under the tutorship of the countries top Maori carvers. Beyond carving, he has also developed a background in television production and has worked in below and above the line advertising marketing communications agencies.
Anthony also has a strong passion for working with at risk youth, and has pioneered a youth development programme Mana Rangatahi and works closely with Police, CYF, Ministry of Education, Iwi, and local schools.
He is a founding member of Nga Aho – Maori Design Professionals, and a board member for Te Hotu Manawa Maori and Awataha Marae.
Peter Millman
Peter Millman has a degree in fine art from Elam. He lives in the rain forest in Waitakere, Titirangi the ‘fringe of heaven’. He has won various international awards and has works in 16 countries. Career highlights include the ‘Giantwins’ of 2004, which was the first artwork from NZ to sell for more than $NZ1M.
Trisha Fisk
Trish Fisk is a painter and sculptor, now based in Whangarei Heads after 30 years farming sheep and cattle in the Hokianga. During that time she studied painting and sculpture by correspondance with the Learning Connexion. It meant juggling farm work with small children and art assignments.
But now her work sells in Auckland and Northland and to overseas buyers. Also a trained journalist, Trisha still writes freelance, mixing writing with painting and sculpture.
"I believe art should be uplifting to look at. If you are going to live with something on your wall it needs to brighten your day either with its colours, or subject. Art needs to make a statement that warms your soul. It shouldn’t need words to explain or justify it."
Speaking of her developing sculpture practice, she has taken part in several symposiums around the country.
“I love being able to combine the practical skills I learned on the farm with my more creative side. Being comfortable wielding a chainsaw or arc welder or axe is like the reward for those years of hard physical work. Now I can use them for artistic ends.”
Brian Wright
Brian Wright is a Master Wood and Bone craftsman, and creator of Wild Image Studios based in Gisborne. He achieved his Open Water Dive Instructors certificate, in addition to specialties including Photography, night navigation, wreck and deep water diving.
Nici Palmer
Nici Palmer is a mixed media artist from Taranaki, she works predominantly in hard stone, Pounamu jade, Andesite, Basalt, Granite and N.Z. Marble.
She has a diploma in Art and Design/Pattern making from WITT Taranaki.
She has previously exhibited in boutique galleries, sculpture
parks and homeshow exhibitions in New Zealand. She has been sculpting and exhibiting in symposiums around New Zealand since 2001.

Lyall Tupe is an artist based in Waitara.

Davey McGhie
Titahi Bay artist and art educator Davey McGhie has exhibited widely across many of the country's major sculpture symposia. Having completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts at Elam, in recent years McGhie has taught at Whitireia Community Polytechnic as well as various schools and community art groups in Wellington. His interests, ranging from song writing, performance in ska rock bands and work in horticulture all serve to inform his art practice.
McGhie values the notion of there being no right or wrong in contemporary art making. With an intuitive approach to the manipulation of his materials, and a robust sense of humour, his visual language is constantly evolving.

This year, Lake House Arts will be co-hosting with Haunted Auckland, who will be set up with their ghost-hunting equipment to search for the mysterious Lake House ghost.
This is a family-friendly event, featuring activities for all age groups including face painting, prizes and a costume disco in the gallery.

Operations Manager Grae Burton, Engagement Coordinator and Assistant Curator Marion Breinhorst, and more of the Lake House Team will be running the 'Round the Bays' on the 8th of March, and the 'Shore to Shore' on the 5th of April.
This is to raise funds for our Emerging Artist initiative EMERGENT: SEE II 2020.
